RELIGIOUS EMBLEMS PROGRAMS FOR CUB SCOUTS

LIGHT OF CHRIST (Must be completed before third grade)

The purpose of the Light of Christ program is to have the Scout develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as a real person and his friend. This type of relationship will allow him to better understand and appreciate Christ's love and concern for him. Through the active assistance and participation of the Scout's parent in this program, it is hoped that he will come to see Jesus as a real person and his friend.

PARVULI DEI

This is a parish and family oriented program. As in Light of Christ, the Scout works with his parents. To be eligible to work on this program a Scout must be a registered Cub Scout of the Catholic Faith, who has completed second grade.

This period in a Scout's life is great for introducing the characters of the Old Testament, Journal projects, diaries, and travelogues are of particular interest at this age level. They're capable of working on art projects such as building model cities, making murals, and collages.

RELIGIOUS EMBLEMS PROGRAMS FOR BOY SCOUTS

The Catholic youth of San Diego registered in the Boy Scouting program have two emblem programs - the Ad Altare Dei and the Pope Pius XII. An issue that occasionally comes up is that a Scout's faith knowledge. Both emblem programs assume that the Scout has had some religious education, However this is not always the case, and should not be viewed as an impediment. A Scout who has not had any formal religious education is eligible to work on an emblem.

AD ALTARE DEI (Jr. High thru High School)

The Ad Altare Dei (AAD) program is designed for Boy Scouts of the CAtholic Church, 13 to 17 years of age. All those who wish to work on the program must be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America, be active in a troop/team for six months, and have completed the sixth grade, before beginning the program.

POPE PIUS XII (High School)

Pope Pius is a vocation-based program designed for high school and college age youth conducted within a group of the youth's peers. Any registered Catholic youth member (male, or female) of the Boy Scouts of America, who has started the ninth grade can work on and achieve the Pope Pius religious emblem.

All these programs are offered through the Catholic Committee on Scouting. The Scout must register for the program he wants to participate in with a trained coordinator of the Catholic Committee. You'll start seeing information on these programs around early September.
